The loss art of hand-drawn art
Drawing by hand? That old thing?
Yes, that old thing.

Drawing by hand has unfortunately been less and less used around the architectural fields, as now all of the resources that you need can be found online, by using Sketchup, AutoCAD, Fusion 360, these are tools that are available to us in order to make our designs on a device and without the need of performing the act of hand drafting and sketching on paper.
However, being able to communicate through quick sketches and drawings is still a necessity. So, if you are good at sketching or model making by hand, don't hesitate to include it in your portfolio. It shows your ability to understand basic concepts and ideas, communicate it to your colleagues in short notice and it also able to show your competence for resolving quick problems in your projects.
Although many may prefer to draw digitally and use a tablet, this is not always a viable solution, and many employers want to see your hand-drawn skills. Drawing is a tool for thought, for creativity, for invention. It is a method for problem-solving - exploring and documenting the evolution of an idea. Drawing can capture time and record a memory. It is visual communication: a medium for expression.
"Let whoever may have attained to so much as to have the power of drawing know that he holds a great treasure." ~Michelangelo

A lot of planning and thought has to be made before putting their design into a software program. Without any preplanning or thought, then your ideas and expressions that you want to convey are not going to demonstrate themselves to your audience. You cannot simply just jump the gun because you have one idea, you must plan out your idea, and with that comes sketches and countless revisions.
A sketch is something that will be able to aid your audience to understand what your purpose and what your goal is, as well as communicating any other kinds of ideas that you may want to express. Some of the benefits of sketching come as:
- It saves time in the workflow progress
- Anyone can sketch, even if it seems like a mess to anyone else, as long as you get it, you can make it into something even greater
- It is fantastic for brainstorming, you are able to get other people to work on it, and you are able to get great feedback from your peers
- And even more
